Currently there are two different roles for certification (which can be viewed on the division webpage at http://www.aaiddreligion.org/certification): Pastoral Care, intended for institutional setting and Lay Minister, intended for community-based outreach. Although the two roles acknowledge the transition to community based supports, they are still heavily influenced by the institutional model.

Based on current practice, and with the approval of those present at the business meeting, the review committee is working on the description of one role to certify in the future. In addition to this change, changes to language will be recommended to reflect the diversity of faith traditions involved in chaplaincy work, as there is currently a strong Christian orientation in the documents.
The review committee is a little behind the September 1 deadline promised, but hopes to have a draft to the steering committee shortly. This will then be forwarded to the division for comments within 30 days. If you have any questions, feel free to contact any or all of the review members: David Morstad, Sr. Gabrielle Kowalski, and <a href="masteran@rcan.org"Anne Masters.
